Little Miss Independent

by kristas on June 16, 2010

O my.  My child has decided that she will be independent now.

At dinner, she no longer wants to wait for me to bring the spoon to her mouth.  After a bite or two, she’s reaching for it, trying to pry it out of my hand and “helping” me feed her.  Then she chews on the spoon for a while, creating more of a mess on her bib than what gets in her mouth.  But.  Whatever.  The pictures are pretty cute.    And I’m sure there’s nutrition in the puffs that she happily eats.  Right?

During playtime (which is pretty much all day long – ahh.. the life of a baby).  She doesn’t have to wait until we randomly find the toy she wants, she can now go get it herself.  And people?  She call PULL HERSELF UP ON IT. (Which I didn’t get a picture of because I was too busy looking at Craig, going… Oh. My. God. Did she just DO that? ) Or sit on her knees while she plays with it?  WHERE did she learn to sit on her knees?

Notice she’s taking the brush with her as she pushes the car around the living room?  I would be worried about her being too concerned about her appearance at such a young age, but actually, it’s her favorite thing to chew on.  And the diaper?  Yep, she likes to play with those too.  Remind me to lower my toy budget in the future.

my mom brought bella a bag full of happy meal toys once, and those are the only things she wants to play with. lol. i still buy her the cute “expensive” toys, and she will have nothing to do with them…..oh well.

and we are going through some of the same things. i think now the trouble REALLY begins.

Haha so cute!! But let me ask – who do you think she got the “I can do it myself” trait from? You or hubby?

That’s too funny because one of my twins has a thing with diapers too!

Feeding time over here has gotten quite messy. I now find food on the walls, on the floor, and in hair and ears.

I love the photo montage of her with the brush and the bike thing. It looks like she is doing maintenance on it. :)

It starts with wanting to feed themselves and then its battles about what clothes she can wear.

But she sure is cute. :)

As a mother of a very independent little girl I just want to say I’m sorry and good luck. It only gets worse from here. I’m not longer allowed to help do anything. At all. Even putting on clothes is a battle. She wants to bathe herself, brush her own teeth and hair, read her own books, play with her own toys, buckle herself in the carseat, etc. It takes us an extra 5-20 minutes to do any given activity becuase she wants to do it on her own.

And if I help her do something, all hell breaks lose! But sometimes we just don’t have the time and I’ll gladly take the screaming toddler if it means getting it done in 45 seconds vs. 5 minutes. :)

Oh my, we are going through the same thing as well! He just wants to do everything by himself, he will not even take a bite if I try to “feed” him. Nope, has to do it himself…and the dog is right there waiting to lick up the mess! LOL

My Rylie is the same way! I am so concerned about her bumping her head all the time because she thinks she is a big girl and can climb on anything!!

My girl does the same thing with the spoon. Let me tell you what saved me: the Boon Squirt spoon. I actually get food INTO her TUMMY instead of just all over her bib. And feeding is actually a speedy process now. You should really try one!
